Adam M. Horn, LMFT

Adam M. Horn, LMFTAdam Horn is a psychotherapist and Licensed Marital & Family Therapist (LMFT) and the founder of Strength to Strength Counseling Services. He has over 30 years experience in the mental health field. He has been an LMFT and an American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) Clinical Fellow for 23 years. Locally, he is a state-division clinical member of the Tennessee Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (TNAMFT), and a licensed clinical member of the Nashville Psychotherapy Institute (NPI).

Adam is also a Certified EMDR (trauma-informed) Therapist, and a member of the Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing International Association (EMDRIA). Since 2011, he has been an AAMFT Approved Clinical Supervisor for post-master’s LMFT and LPC candidates in Tennessee and California. He also serves as a Mentor to licensed psychotherapists seeking the Approved Clinical Supervisor designation.

Prior to 2016, Adam served as Chief Quality Officer and Clinical Director with Tennessee Voices in Nashville. Before joining that organization in 2009, Adam was the Quality Assurance Manager & Clinical Trainer with Volunteers of America Western Washington, Care Crisis Response Services, where he also served as a Supervising Mental Health Professional for the regional crisis and suicide triage program. Before that, Adam served as Division Director of School-Based Services for Fred Finch Youth Center, a private non-profit that provides mental health and family services in Oakland, California.

In addition to his Tennessee State LMFT license, Adam is also a licensed LMFT in California, and has an inactive LMFT license in good standing in Washington State. Adam received his Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Hahnemann/Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA in 1993. This graduate program was the first to be fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE). He served as Board Treasurer with the Tennessee Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (TNAMFT) from 2013 – 2015. Adam currently serves as President on the executive board of his synagogue.

Adam has an extensive background in crisis and suicide prevention and intervention. He has been a certified trainer with Applied Suicide Intention Skills Training (ASIST) and with the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Skills training.

From 2019 – 2022, Adam served as an Officer in the Medical Services Battalion with the Tennessee State Guard with the rank of Captain. In 2020, as a part of the Joint Medical Task Force and statewide COVID-19 mission, he accepted a deployment and assumed the role of Behavioral Health Officer under the TN Army National Guard. In this effort, Adam led the development and implementation of a new behavioral health screen for the 800+ soldiers and airmen deployed with this mission. His efforts have been recognized by the National Guard Bureau in Washington DC as pioneering in preventative behavioral health, and have been replicated in all 50 states and 4 territories. For these efforts, he was awarded the TN National Guard Commendation Ribbon; the National & State Guard Individual Achievement Ribbons; the Department of the Army Civilian Medal for Humanitarian Service; and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services COVID-19 Pandemic Campaign Medal.

Adam is married to a mathematics education professor at Vanderbilt University, and has three children — one in high school, one in college, and one a college graduate. View our new office.
